Iris

Over 15 years ago my friend, Phyllis moved away from Michigan -- and she let me transplant some iris from her yard. They continue to bloom wonderfully every summer. I spent the morning painting them and thinking of her!

WDE challenge "Hedwig"

I choose a photo of a teen from the Weed-end Drawing Event on Wet Canvas. Here are my two attempts at capturing Hedwig. Alas, neither one is exactly right -- but I keep learning with each one! One done on colored paper (which I really like with watercolor pencils -- somehow it's more forgiving than white paper!) and the other done in my sketchbook -- both with Prismacolor pencils. I'd love critiques!!

I've been tagged!

Anna "tagged" me -- which I think means I have to tell you five things I have in my : closet, car, purse and refrigerator. Taking the lead from Nina, I decided to draw my lists as well as write them out. I've wondered lately why I do carry a purse? I've drawn my very cool purse which I bought last week-end in New York City on the street for $5.00!! Purses are a pain in the neck to keep track of - and I'm not sure I need the things I carry around in mine all the time. But, here they are: lipstick (NEVER used!), nail clippers (maybe twice a year), my cell phone (I leave it off, but carry it for "emergencies"), my favorite purple pen (oh, I couldn't do without that!) and I ALWAYS carry a package of M & Ms (you never know when you might be faced with a spare 20 minutes with no food handy!!)

Five things from my refrig. The obvious! We are vegetarians so we usually have lots of veggies in there!

Five things from my car: map, umbrella, keys, snow scraper (in Michigan we just leave 'em in all year!) and a little coin purse where I keep Canadian money -- I live very close to the border and go to Canada regularly!

Five things found in my closet -- hangers of all sorts! Should have planned a little better how I was going to fit them on the page!! LOL

Geraniums for Mothers Day!

My son brought me these lovely geraniums this morning!! What a sweet guy! I had fun drawing them and then "painting" them in Photoshop. I have enjoyed making a lot of art today -- a perfect Mother's Day!!

Pansy

Wet Canvas challenge for this week-end included this pansy blossom. I used my new Derwendt watercolor pencils. I see that I did not capture the shadow correctly at all! A little heavy with the black! I have scanned the drawing before and after adding water. I'd LOVE any tips on using these watercolor pencils!

flowers on the stairs

I painted these flowers from a photo from Kathy Johnson's student yahoo group. I'm pleased with it for the most part!

Being Nosey!

EDM Challenge this week is "noses". Pretty ugly subject -- but I did learn some things by drawing all of these noses! Human noses have a similar structure and are defined by the shadows cast... Animals, on the other hand, are pretty unique!
