I've just started a new online class in "stencilry". It is taught by Mary Ann at Dispatch from LA. Still time to sign up if you're interested! Our first project was to make a cover for a portfolio where we will keep all of our journal pages stored.

This week's WDE challenge was to make an abstract from one of the posted photos. I did this hyacinth in Inktense Watercolor Pencil -- and then added the black with Photoshop! Fun!

There was a challenge this week on WDE to do a tight crop and use lots of bold colors. So, here is my version of this sweet little kitty. T'was fun to do! Must remember to post more of my work here. I have been making art, just not getting it posted. A new year's resolution perhaps! Thanks for checking in!

I saw an article this week in the Detroit Free Press about Donald Anderson -- a free lance painter and teacher who sets up shop by the Detroit River in downtown Detroit. So, I went down today and had a FANTASTIC lesson on acrylics wtih him en plain air! Donald was a wonderful teacher and I am so pleased with my very first acrylic painting! Can't wait to go back next Saturday to learn more! The African Festival was going on in the background with wonderful drumming, dancing, foods -- it was an afternoon of color, rhythym, water and wonderful folks. Donald's friend posed for the picture!

This wonderful still life of onions, tomato and cabbage was posted last week-end on WDE. This is done in WC on WC paper (which makes a huge difference -- much better than my sketchbook paper to work on!!)

Well, my class is over and can't say that I feel accomplished yet -- but, did do this little kitty from a photo posted on http://http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=133WDE this week-end. She is not as blue in real life as she appears in this photo!

Pastel painting

I am taking a pastel painting class at our local art center this spring. Here is my first full scale painting -- never mind that I didn't have room for all of it on the page!!! But, I am pretty proud of it. Don't know that I'll go in for pastels in a big way -- as I spent approximately 6 HOURS doing this painting during two class periods!! I'm much more of a "quickie" artist!! But, it was good practice for me to have to work slowly and rework the colors -- with all that underpainting!!

The week-end's WDE photos included a lovely one of the hosts Grandchildren, Ava and Zoe. Done on WC paper 7 x9 inches. Also, another in my kraft paper sketchbook. Looking forward to seeing some REAL flowers soon!

Ceramic bowl

EDM challenge last week was to draw a bowl. This is my favorite one -- ceramic, bought at an art fair. More than one friend has quipped that maybe I could have gotten one that wasn't broken if I'd paid more!

Mundane subjects

I went to an art exhibit this week-end where the artist, Luzhen Qiu, had an installation of a million fish eyes. It was amazing to see how such a "non-artistic" subject could be so fascinating. The artist talked about how it was about the fun of creating the installation and the design -- it was not about the necessary talent (though she had plenty of that too!) of drawing fish eyes. So, I turned my drawing skill to my favorite candy today! It was fun both to draw and then to eat the left-overs!

Danny Gregory posted a little video on his web site today with helpful hints about how he draws portraits. Using his technique I drew this woman from an ad in Yoga magazine. I am quite pleased with her!

This week-end there were lots of fun photos to work from. I got a new sketchbook that is brown kraft paper. I have drawn this salt marsh with micron pen and white Prismacolor pencil. Then, I tried my hand at colored pencil oranges and mangoes. Finally, I drew these Camelia and Albutin flowers done in ink over pink and orange WC wash.
