WDE challenge "Hedwig"

I choose a photo of a teen from the Weed-end Drawing Event on Wet Canvas. Here are my two attempts at capturing Hedwig. Alas, neither one is exactly right -- but I keep learning with each one! One done on colored paper (which I really like with watercolor pencils -- somehow it's more forgiving than white paper!) and the other done in my sketchbook -- both with Prismacolor pencils. I'd love critiques!!

I think the top one looks quite a bit like her. The things I see that might be a little off are -
There should be more space between her nose and mouth.
Her forehead above the eyes should not curve out quite so much but should slope back slightly.
Possibly, she needs a little more height at the top of her head, more like your bottom drawing.
I don't mean to suggest that I could do any better however. I think you did a great job!

I think the head shape of the bottom one is better (maybe the hair is slightly high but I haven't seen the photo). The eyes on top are better - the left iris of the bottom one fills the eye too much. The mouth needs to follow the perspective of the face so the left half of the mouth (bottom) should be higher, more of a curve. They are both nice in different ways so hope this doesn't sound too critical!

Just a second thought - maybe the mouth just needs a little tiny bit of shading between the corner of the mouth and the cheek shadow?

Very nicely done. I do like the one done on colored paper, but the mouth on that one needs a little something. Not quite right. Like what you did with the hair.

Your drawing shows a great color sense, good for painting skills. I might suggest to blow up your photo to something double what your drawing size is for some good reference. Remember to draw what you see, not what you think is there...usually there is a lot of definition with the eyes, highlights that you might not remember go on the lids, but are there in real life. You've got a nice style - keep it up!
