pussy willow

This is my first attempt at "botanical drawing" -- i.e. trying to be fairly exacting with size, shape, color etc. I picked an easy subject to start with! Pussywillows just beginning to come out in Michigan!

Penny, these are so lovely-love those pussy willows.

I took a class from Cynthia a few weeks ago and one thing I can tell you is to press down hard on your colored pencils and make it look like a painting, and match the colors as perfect as possible. I invite you to look at my drawing at http://painteddaisies.blogspot.com/2006/03/botanical-illustration.html

You can see what I learned and you can do the same because you are on the very right track.

This is Teri from EDM and Botanical group.

Penny -- these are wonderfully drawn pussy willows! You are right about starting out going lightly with a very very sharp pencil, building up many layers of different colors. Then you want to press down a little more vigorously to blend the underlying colors. This is if you are using a soft toothy paper (like Stonehenge) -- if you are using a slicker paper, you can't do quite so many layers and have to have the right color on hand. Everybody does CP differently, though, and this one looks great! Practice and PLAY -- colored pencils are addictive!
